Health at Every Size

For a perspective on obesity and weight that doesn’t always get much air time check out Health at Every Size.

Health at Every Size is based on the simple premise that the best way to improve health is to honor your body. It supports people in adopting health habits for the sake of health and well-being (rather than weight control). Health at Every Size encourages:

  • Accepting and respecting the natural diversity of body sizes and shapes.
  • Eating in a flexible manner that values pleasure and honors internal cues of hunger, satiety, and appetite.
  • Finding the joy in moving one’s body and becoming more physically vital.

While there are some critiques I have of this movement (generally a disavowal or the very real health risks that often accompany weighing considerably more than you “should”) I admire what they are trying to do. Their biggest problem seems to be getting the word out, as there are only 4126 people who care enough to sign their pledge.
