Gender+Food

What qualifies as man or woman food?  Do calories matter, or merely the manner in which those calories are delivered (1 pint of Haagen-Daz vanilla ice cream= 1,080, or roughly the equivalent of a Burger King Triple Whopper)?

Can you imagine what a 10-calorie manly beverage ‘focus group’ would look like?

Nice point, presentation is definitely an integral factor in the performance and culture of eating/dining. Even when calories are discussed by women, i.e. pints of Haagen-Daz or a slice of cheesecake, the consumption of such ‘feminized’ foods is largely more acceptable, anticipated and normalized than the consumption of foods labeled masculine, i.e. steaks, burgers, etc.

It brings me back to Bryant’s post of the discussion of ‘gay’ food?? Reading that article I interepreted a strong sense of gendered food and the role it plays in performance in gay culture (at least by the interviewee’s perspective)..just a thought..
