“Some people win, some people always have to lose”

I made a cake for the Superbowl, combining my four favorite things: Fleetwood Mac, supporting my boyfriend’s interests, being hilarious, and receiving praise for my efforts. This is a complicated but satisfying joke. Before they joined Fleetwood Mac (a long successful British blues band without them, recorded three of the best albums ever with them, self-titled, Rumours, and Tusk), Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were just two brilliant musicians/kids in love, recording a memorable/great/ never released on CD record as Buckingham Nicks in 1973. They were beautifully young/hairy/naked on the cover:

OMG so gorgeous. Now listen to this song.

Also, two of the star players on the New York Giants, who played in the Super Bowl this year, are named Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham. So I’ve been calling them Manningham Nicks in reference to Buckingham Nicks, and combined them together on the cake I made for the Super Bowl. And they won. Coincidence? It is hard to draw well in chocolate, FYI.

And this other guy, Justin Tuck, also seems good at football and his name is approximately a Fleetwood Mac reference.

The cake had layers of lemon cake, chocolate cake, whipped cream, lingonberries, and elderflower and orange marmalade, with a little cream cheese frosting on the top. All 1970s hair is in chocolate.

Oh man Carly, that cake looks and sounds ridiculous!! Hmmm, I too am a baker albeit novice by comparison.. I think I need to come over for some lessons to make my cakes more refined 🙂

Great song btw..I love Stevie..it doesn’t get much better than the ‘Edge of Seventeen’!
